New Venture and ISO Award for Leyland Rubber Components Ltd

September 2009 - V1, trade press

ISO Award Leyland Rubber Components Ltd continues to move from strength to strength since its formation almost three years ago. The two latest developments at the company are the awarding of ISO 9001 and a new partnership with Polymer Recyclers Ltd, which will allow the company to take advantage of extensive on-site laboratory and R&D facilities.

As a result of a new partnership between the two companies, Polymer Recyclers Ltd retains its head office in Doncaster whilst moving its extensive laboratory and testing facilities to Leyland Business Park, home already to Leyland Rubber Components. In an agreement unique to the industry, Polymer Recyclers will provide extensive laboratory, testing and development facilities to Leyland Rubber Components, which will facilitate product testing for operational requirements and provide a platform for new product development work. In return, Polymer Recyclers will gain access to Leyland Rubber Components' comprehensive primary processing facilities. The new facilities in Leyland are already operational.

Martin Gregory of Polymer Recyclers Ltd said, "The two businesses are complementary, and this new relationship allows both to provide even better service to our customers. We are looking forward to working with the team at LRC and being instrumental in their bringing new products to market."

As Chris Turner, managing director of Leyland Rubber Components, explains, this new partnership is one of a number of developments at the company. "In August of this year we were awarded the ISO9001 certification", he says. "This was particularly gratifying for a company as young as ours and is a reward for the investment we have made and the commitment of our team."

NatWest Supports Investment at Leyland Rubber Components

Leyland, 7th October 2009

A Lancashire-based manufacturing business has invested £50k to boost its production facilities after securing funding from NatWest via the Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) scheme.

Leyland Rubber Components have made the investment in new laboratory testing equipment and a calandering machine used to produce flat rubber sheets. The company's directors are confident the investment will attract up to £100k worth of new orders each year due to the demand from customers for calendared rubber products.

The business was established less than three years ago after directors Chris Turner, John Burdett and Martin Ainscough acquired the assets of Leyland Rubber Company, which had been placed into administration.

Leyland Rubber Components manufactures rubber and polyurethane products such as seals, gaskets and conveyor belts. Its products are used across many industry sectors including aerospace, construction, electronics and engineering. The company employs 28 people and operates from a 100,000 sq ft base on Leyland Business Park.

Chris Turner, Managing Director of Leyland Rubber Components, said:

"This investment is a key part of our future strategy to grow the business as it will allow us to achieve greater efficiencies. It's important to upgrade our facilities to ensure we remain competitive and more responsive to our customer's needs."

NatWest in Preston provided funding via the Government backed EFG scheme. The scheme aims to provide small businesses with immediate access to working capital or investment finance and sees the Government guarantee 75% of the loan and the bank cover the remaining 25%.

Steve Nicholson, Relationship Manager from NatWest, said:

"Leyland Rubber Company is a well run business that is always looking to improve its performance by investing in new technology. This investment is will undoubtedly strengthen their processes and help them maintain an edge in the market."
